Competitions are run on a regular monthly basis. Informal practice periods are allowed to enable people to prepare themselves properly. The type of firearm that may be used in a competition is sometimes governed by specific rules, however members may use their facility to practice with any legal type of firearm. Commonly used firearms include modern hunting and sporting type rifles, ex- military surplus firearms, specialist target shooting arms and all forms of shotguns. Handguns are fully catered for, from blackpowder "boomers" to the sophisticated Olympic class technologies. Our complex features a 300 metre long rifle range, with fourteen concrete benchrest tables. A 200 metre long pistol range adequately caters to the needs of our many pistol shooters. A "bush-walk style" simulated field shotgun course with twelve clay target throwers enables shooters to practice their field hunting skills while enjoying the social competitive events. A separate "Rendezvous Range" allows those who want to relive historical period times a chance to experience the thrills of early pioneering days first hand. A strong emphasis is placed on creating a happy social atmosphere during competitions, with special considerations given to beginners. Qualified Range Officers supervise all shooting activities. All range and shooting safety rules must be strictly obeyed by every person using our complex, so everyone can enjoy pleasant and safe recreational shooting in a friendly sporting environment. |
