Saturday 8 October. At 10.00 the SSAA
Rockhampton Indoor Airpistol Range
was officially opened by the Member for Keppel Paul Hoolihan. Several
actions were involved. First he had to cut the ribbon barring entrance
to
the shed, then Paul revealed a Plaque comemorating the event and
finally he
had to try his hand at Air Pistol shooting.
While awaiting the start of the festivities a number of shooters
began the
Airpistol Metallic Silhoutte Match. After morning tea and Paul Hoolihan's
departure a large number of participants shot the Airpistol Target
Match as
well as the Airpistol Metallic Silhouettes.
Leading the field in both events was Gladys Cox who outshot the
men at
their own game of 60 shots in the target shoot with 529 our of 600
and with
20 silhouettes.

A Club Record
In the afternoon nine shooters competed in the Air Pistol
Metallic Silhouette Match, where various metal silhouettes
of animals placed at various distances must be knocked off their
perch. There are 10 silhouettes placed in a row at each of four
different distances. A prize is offered for the shooter that manages
to knock down a whole row of silhouettes. So far only one shooter
succeeded in knocking down a whole row of silhouettes. This time
however Reg Hoare coolly knocked down the first row (chickens),
then proceeded to knock down the second row (pigs).

Match.

the Rockhampton S.S.A.A ranges in Cawarral, including one Junior.
The International Sporting Shooters Federation (ISSF) prescribes
40 scoring shots for women and Juniors; 60 scoring shots for men.
Since most air pistols now use compressed air, relieving the shooter
from the repetitious task of manually compressing a spring or
a volume of air, this rule may be changed in future. However,
to make the results comparable, the average score per target (5
shots) is taken as a base for comparison. The actual score is
placed in brackets.
